The
varied terrain, climate and vegetation of India is the ideal home for diverse
wild life. Animals have been an important part of Indian religion and revered
as gods and vehicles of gods. Today, almost 3 % of the vast peninsula is protected
with wilderness. With 53 national parks and 2000 birds species - most of which
are unique to the sub continent - the white tiger, the royal bengal tiger,
the asiatic lion, the lion tailed macaque, the handymean teal to name a few.
